Spa Ladies are Runners-Up in County InterClub

Two rinks travelled to Cotswold Bowls Club in Stroud on Sunday 1 September to compete in the final stages of the Ladies Interclub competition. In the semi-final they triumphed over Nailsworth to set up a final in the afternoon against Henleaze. Unfortunately, Henleaze won the final by twelve shots but that did not deter the team from celebrating a good run in the competition by posing with the runners-up trophy (below).

Fred Cook Tournament

The annual Fred Cook three-wood singles tournament was held at the Spa on Tuesday 27 August when 24 competitors gathered to battle it out in this rapid-fire drawing contest. Two groups played out until four semi-finalists emerged. In these, Joan Davies beat Wyn Barbero and Bob Shilling beat Graham Emptage to set up a final between Joan and Bob. In the final, Joan ran out the winner 9-1. Pictured below are tournament organiser, Peter Hibbs, and Club President, Robin Eeles, presenting the trophy to the victor.

Invitation Triples 2019

This year again, four Spa teams joined twelve invited triples to compete for cash prizes at our annual Invitation Triples weekend (10, 11 August). It's fair to say that weather conditions were not entirely favourable for some of the weekend (especially Saturday) but competitors were not about to let a little rain spoil the fun! Over two days of intense competition, the result was a reverse of 2017 with Spa triple of May Shurmer, Brian Shurmer and Margaret McColl (with a little help from Digger Dicks) losing out to the youthful trio of Daniel Allsop, Blake Smith and Chad Smith. Dan's team won seven of their eight games while Margaret's triple won six and drew one with a shot difference of 32. In third place were Mike Chandler, David Wiggall and Trevor Ritchie who also won six and drew one but could only muster a 14 shot difference The full result can be viewed here as a PDF.

2019 Fixtures

Fixtures for the 2019 season are available for viewing here. For members who prefer the comfort of a printed card you should have received your copy at the Captain's Evening in March but you can still secure a copy from any committee member. Also, keep an eye on this page and the Events calendar detailing our extensive winter activities. Please check both calendars regularly for updates and check the notice boards in the Club. Better still, copy them into your own personal calendar (see below for details on how to do this). For those who haven't got access to online calendars, please check the screen in the entrance foyer on match days for up-to-date information.

No Increase in fees for 2019

Thanks to the continued hard work of all our volunteers and the support of members for events at the Club the Treasurer was able to announce at the Club AGM that the Executive Committee have agreed that Club fees will again stay at £65 for 2019 and all other fees will stay the same as last season.

Committee Members

The Club Executive and Bowling Committee members have been elected for 2019 with the Executive Committee unchanged from last year.

The Club is managed and maintained by the Executive committee while the Bowling Committee has responsibility for organising and participating in club matches and local and national competitions. Some posts in the Bowling Committee are yet to be decided so as ever keep an eye on this page for further developments.

Club Shirts

We retain a limited number of coloured shirts in the Clubhouse. Please ask any committee member if your size is available. Alternatively you can order direct from our suppliers, Zapcam Limited

Keeping up to date with Club activities

Members will have noticed the digital information screen in the Clubhouse entrance porch. Please let Trevor or Alan know if there is anything that you think would be useful on this screen.

Also two Google calendars are now maintained that will show all our club events and matches. The best way to access these services is via a calendar app on your 3G or 4G mobile devices (Android, iPhone, Microsoft). To do this the two calendar pages on this site have a button on the bottom right hand corner of the display which copies the calendar into your personal calendar.

The calendars will not replace our printed fixture cards or notices etc. This year again the fixture card will be produced from information in the calendar. The card will still be available as the main source of information on matches. It is hoped that using the new system will encourage more of our members to visit the Club and support matches played on our green and social events held at the Club.
